The active sites with\u00adin the micro\u00adp\u00adorous struc\u00adture are not read\u00adi\u00adly acces\u00adsi\u00adble to aro\u00admat\u00adic mol\u00ade\u00adcules. How\u00adev\u00ader, UZM-5 (UFI) based cat\u00ada\u00adlysts is shown to be effec\u00adtive in the alky\u00adla\u00adtion of ben\u00adzene with light olefin under the liq\u00aduid phase test con\u00addi\u00adtion. The good cat\u00adalyt\u00adic per\u00adfor\u00admance sug\u00adgests that there are abun\u00addant active sites exter\u00adnal to the micro\u00adp\u00adorous struc\u00adture of UZM-5 and is con\u00adsis\u00adtent with struc\u00adtur\u00adal char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adi\u00adza\u00adtion using DIF\u00adFax and HR-TEM. In con\u00adtrast the dis\u00adpro\u00adpor\u00adtion\u00ada\u00adtion and trans-alky\u00adla\u00adtion reac\u00adtion of alkyl\u00adben\u00adzene over zeo\u00adlite beta (BEA) is car\u00adried out by acid sites in zeo\u00adlite micro\u00adp\u00adores and is sen\u00adsi\u00adtive to acid\u00adi\u00adty irre\u00adspec\u00adtive of the vary\u00ading mor\u00adpholo\u00adgies achieved by var\u00adi\u00adous syn\u00adthe\u00adsis approach\u00ades. As shown by the EB dis\u00adpro\u00adpor\u00adtion\u00ada\u00adtion reac\u00adtion in vapor phase and acid\u00adi\u00adty mea\u00adsure\u00adment by FTIR, the max\u00adi\u00admal activ\u00adi\u00adty coin\u00adcides with max\u00adi\u00admal acid\u00adi\u00adty.
