In addi\u00adtion, the cat\u00ada\u00adlyst has to endure the oper\u00adat\u00ading con\u00addi\u00adtions encoun\u00adtered in fuel proces\u00adsors and have a suf\u00adfi\u00adcient use\u00adful life\u00adtime.<\/p>\n<p>Real\u00adis\u00adtic test pro\u00adto\u00adcols and accel\u00ader\u00adat\u00aded aging tests play an impor\u00adtant role  in deter\u00admin\u00ading the dura\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty of cat\u00ada\u00adlysts. In auto\u00admo\u00adtive three-way cat\u00ada\u00adlyst, there is a vast data\u00adbase of mil\u00adlions of used cat\u00ada\u00adlysts and the  preva\u00adlent fail\u00adure modes were exten\u00adsive\u00adly stud\u00adied. This is not the case in fuel proces\u00adsors for hydro\u00adgen pro\u00adduc\u00adtion. With very lim\u00adit\u00aded field data, we  have to design tests which mim\u00adic the most dam\u00adag\u00ading con\u00addi\u00adtions encoun\u00adtered  using lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry reac\u00adtors and deter\u00admine pos\u00adsi\u00adble fail\u00adure modes.<\/p>\n<p>I will show exam\u00adples of test pro\u00adto\u00adcols devel\u00adoped at BASF Cat\u00ada\u00adlysts (for\u00admer\u00adly  Engel\u00adhard). Test\u00ading of water gas shift cat\u00ada\u00adlysts demon\u00adstrate how start-stop  oper\u00ada\u00adtions with var\u00adi\u00adous start-stop cycles can be among the most dam\u00adag\u00ading  oper\u00ada\u00adtions to the cat\u00ada\u00adlysts. Results of the tests form the basis for  trou\u00adbleshoot\u00ading of cat\u00ada\u00adlysts prob\u00adlems in the appli\u00adca\u00adtion.
