In our lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry, we have exam\u00adined in detail the hydro\u00adgena\u00adtion and hydrogenol\u00ady\u00adsis of bio\u00admass-derived poly\u00adols and car\u00adboxylic acids as plat\u00adform inter\u00adme\u00addi\u00adates for a vari\u00adety of prod\u00aduct species. This work has involved both  fun\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtal efforts to under\u00adstand reac\u00adtion mech\u00ada\u00adnism and  sub\u00adstrate-cat\u00ada\u00adlyst inter\u00adac\u00adtions and applied stud\u00adies to char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adize the effect of sol\u00advent, sub\u00adstrate adsorp\u00adtion, and cat\u00ada\u00adlyst sup\u00adport prop\u00ader\u00adties. This talk will review our recent find\u00adings on sev\u00ader\u00adal reac\u00adtion sys\u00adtems includ\u00ading glyc\u00aderol hydrogenol\u00ady\u00adsis to propy\u00adlene gly\u00adcol and lac\u00adtic acid and pro\u00adpi\u00adonic acid hydro\u00adgena\u00adtion to alco\u00adhols.
