Reac\u00adtors have to be much more com\u00adpact and effi\u00adcient and cat\u00ada\u00adlysts more active\u00adand selec\u00adtive. In this talk, three process\u00ades of small\u00ader scale hydro\u00adgen pro\u00adduc\u00adtion will bep\u00adre\u00adsent\u00aded. The first is ammo\u00adnia decom\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtion on Ru.<\/p>\n<p>Ammo\u00adnia has one of the largest gravi\u00admet\u00adric hydro\u00adgen stor\u00adage capac\u00adi\u00adties and is an excel\u00adlent COx-free fuel. We willd\u00adis\u00adcuss the chem\u00adistry on Ru, the effect of par\u00adti\u00adcle size and shape on activ\u00adi\u00adty, and meth\u00adod\u00adsto find opti\u00admal cat\u00ada\u00adlysts. The oth\u00ader process\u00ades are par\u00adtial oxi\u00adda\u00adtion and steam reform\u00ading ofmethane on Rh, a pro\u00adto\u00adtype exam\u00adple of hydro\u00adcar\u00adbon or bio\u00admass to syn\u00adgas con\u00adver\u00adsion\u00adwith inher\u00adent\u00adly more com\u00adplex chem\u00adistry. Steam reform\u00ading of methane to syn\u00adgas has been\u00adtra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal\u00adly thought to be very slow and unsuit\u00adable for onboard appli\u00adca\u00adtion. We showthat all these process\u00ades can run at sub\u00admil\u00adlisec\u00adond con\u00adtact times.
