It is under\u00adstood that the enzymepro\u00adtein pro\u00advides an envi\u00adron\u00adment that is con\u00adducive to coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtive effect among the group\u00adsand hydropho\u00adbic\u00adi\u00adty at the active cen\u00adter. In con\u00adtrast, catal\u00ady\u00adsis in abi\u00adot\u00adic sys\u00adtems sel\u00addo\u00admu\u00adti\u00adlized such func\u00adtions, espe\u00adcial\u00adly het\u00adero\u00adge\u00adneous catal\u00ady\u00adsis. Instead, they rely on harshre\u00adac\u00adtion con\u00addi\u00adtions of ele\u00advat\u00aded tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adtures and pres\u00adsures, and\/or strong acids and bases,with the con\u00adse\u00adquence of sac\u00adri\u00adfic\u00ading selec\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adty. Recent\u00adly, advances in cat\u00ada\u00adlyst syn\u00adthe\u00adsistech\u00adniques make it increas\u00ading\u00adly pos\u00adsi\u00adble to design and syn\u00adthe\u00adsize abi\u00adot\u00adic sys\u00adtems that\u00adpos\u00adsess mul\u00adti\u00adple func\u00adtion\u00adal\u00adi\u00adties to achieve coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtive catal\u00ady\u00adsis.<\/p>\n<p>Exam\u00adples include\u00adco\u00adop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtive acid-base catal\u00ady\u00adsis in which a Lewis acid and a basic func\u00adtion are anchore\u00addon a sil\u00adi\u00adca sur\u00adface, includ\u00ading SBA-15 and coor\u00addi\u00adnat\u00aded met\u00adal ions on the periph\u00adery of aden\u00addrimer. We have inves\u00adti\u00adgat\u00aded using nanocage struc\u00adtures to exam\u00adine the effect ofen\u00advi\u00adron\u00adment and dis\u00adcov\u00adered evi\u00addence of the \u201cpKa shift\u201d effect of amines groups insid\u00ade\u00adthe cage, pri\u00admar\u00adi\u00adly due to elec\u00adtro\u00adsta\u00adt\u00adic repul\u00adsion.
