NGASErequires elec\u00adtrodes that exhib\u00adit sta\u00adble per\u00adfor\u00admance in dry methane, with lowover\u00adpo\u00adten\u00adtials, and allow oper\u00ada\u00adtion at high tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adtures. A vari\u00adety of nov\u00adel air and fuel\u00adelec\u00adtrodes have been devel\u00adoped and test\u00aded for SOE and NGASE devices.<\/p>\n<p>In all cas\u00ades, the\u00adelec\u00adtrodes are made by addi\u00adtion of the active, elec\u00adtrode com\u00adpo\u00adnents into porous yttri\u00adasta\u00adbi\u00adlizedzir\u00adco\u00adnia (YSZ) lay\u00aders that had been pre-sin\u00adtered with the YSZ elec\u00adtrolyte. Air\u00adelec\u00adtrodes based on Sr-doped LaFeO<sub>3<\/sub> (LSF) have been shown to exhib\u00adit supe\u00adri\u00ador\u00adper\u00adfor\u00admance to more tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal LSM-based elec\u00adtrodes but can deac\u00adti\u00advate after long time\u00adsor high tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adtures, appar\u00adent\u00adly due to sin\u00adter\u00ading of the LSF. Cu-based elec\u00adtrodes were\u00adfound to exhib\u00adit poor ther\u00admal sta\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty above 1073&nbsp;K due to sin\u00adter\u00ading of Cu, but Cu-Coelec\u00adtrodes pre\u00adpared by Co elec\u00adtrode\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtion onto the Cu com\u00adpos\u00adite had sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly\u00adim\u00adproved per\u00adfor\u00admance. It was shown that a Cu mono\u00adlay\u00ader forms at the Co sur\u00adface after\u00adheat\u00ading in H2 due to free-ener\u00adgy con\u00adsid\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtions, so that the Cu-Co elec\u00adtrodes exhib\u00adit thether\u00admal sta\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty of Co and the chem\u00adi\u00adcal sta\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty of Cu. Final\u00adly, a nov\u00adel, all-ceram\u00adic\u00adelec\u00adtrode was devel\u00adoped for use in fuel envi\u00adron\u00adments.
