Nicholas Del\u00adgass of Pur\u00addue Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty is the recip\u00adi\u00adent of the Society\u2019s 2006 Excel\u00adlence in Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Award spon\u00adsored by Exxon\u00adMo\u00adbil Research and Engi\u00adneer\u00ading.<\/p>\n<p>Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Del\u00adgass is being rec\u00adog\u00adnized for his numer\u00adous, sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant, con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions to catal\u00ady\u00adsis sci\u00adence. Since receiv\u00ading his PhD from Stan\u00adford Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty with Michel Boudart, Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Del\u00adgass\u2019 long and illus\u00adtri\u00adous career has been marked by ele\u00adgant and cre\u00adative research in het\u00adero\u00adge\u00adneous catal\u00ady\u00adsis and sur\u00adface sci\u00adence. His research is dis\u00adtin\u00adguished by its con\u00adsis\u00adtent focus on fun\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtal kinet\u00adics, mol\u00ade\u00adc\u00adu\u00adlar char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adi\u00adza\u00adtion, and care\u00adful atten\u00adtion to exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal detail to pro\u00advide clear mech\u00ada\u00adnis\u00adtic insights into com\u00adplex cat\u00adalyt\u00adic sys\u00adtems. In so doing, he has pio\u00adneered the appli\u00adca\u00adtion to cat\u00adalyt\u00adic sys\u00adtems of many spec\u00adtro\u00adscop\u00adic tech\u00adniques, such as M\u00f6ss\u00adbauer, XPS, SIMS and sol\u00adid state NMR,  pro\u00advid\u00ading struc\u00adtur\u00adal under\u00adstand\u00ading of both active sites and key organ\u00adic inter\u00adme\u00addi\u00adates. Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Del\u00adgass con\u00adtin\u00adues to advance the catal\u00ady\u00adsis field in his cur\u00adrent role as Direc\u00adtor of Purdue\u2019s new\u00adly formed Cen\u00adter for Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Design. In this role, Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Del\u00adgass is lead\u00ading a mul\u00adti-sci\u00aden\u00adtist effort to uti\u00adlize high through\u00adput exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion along with for\u00adward pre\u00addic\u00adtive fun\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtal mod\u00adels to sys\u00adtem\u00adat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly sug\u00adgest new cat\u00ada\u00adlyst struc\u00adtures for exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal design. In addi\u00adtion to his many research accom\u00adplish\u00adments, Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Del\u00adgass is rec\u00adog\u00adnized as a pre\u00admier teacher, men\u00adtor, and col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtor whose enthu\u00adsi\u00adas\u00adtic sup\u00adport of catal\u00ady\u00adsis sci\u00adence and tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy con\u00adtin\u00adues to inspire his many stu\u00addents, asso\u00adciates and col\u00adleagues in the field.<\/p>\n<p>Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Del\u00adgass will be hon\u00adored with a plaque and a cash award, spon\u00adsored by Exxon\u00adMo\u00adbil Research and Engi\u00adneer\u00ading Com\u00adpa\u00adny on May 24, 2006 at a din\u00adner meet\u00ading at the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety of Met\u00adro\u00adpol\u00adi\u00adtan New York at the Mar\u00adriott Hotel, Som\u00ader\u00adset, NJ.
