Three recip\u00adi\u00adents were select\u00aded to receive awards for excel\u00adlence in organ\u00adic catal\u00ady\u00adsis at the 21st Con\u00adfer\u00adence of the Organ\u00adic Reac\u00adtions Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety(www\u200b.orcs\u200b.org<\/a>) spon\u00adsored by the Organ\u00adic Reac\u00adtions Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Society(ORCS) on the week of April 2, 2006 in Orlan\u00addo, Flori\u00adda. The 2005 Paul N. Rylan\u00adder Award went to Dr. Jean-Marie Bas\u00adset, Lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtoire de Chimie Organomet\u00adallique de Sur\u00adface, CNRS, Lyon, France and the 2006 Paul N. Rylan\u00adder Award was pre\u00adsent\u00aded to Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Gadi Rothen\u00adberg, Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Ams\u00adter\u00addam, The Nether\u00adlands. The 2006 Mur\u00adray Raney Award, spon\u00adsored by the W. R. Grace Co., was pre\u00adsent\u00aded to Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Isamu Yamauchi, Osa\u00adka Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty, Japan.<\/p>\n

The Paul N. Rylan\u00adder Award is an annu\u00adal award, spon\u00adsored by ORCS, made to an indi\u00advid\u00adual who has made sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions to the use of catal\u00ady\u00adsis in organ\u00adic reac\u00adtions as exem\u00adpli\u00adfied by Paul N. Rylan\u00adder. The Mur\u00adray Raney Award is made to an indi\u00advid\u00adual who has made sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions to chem\u00adistry and the chem\u00adistry indus\u00adtry via cat\u00ada\u00adlyst tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy based on that orig\u00adi\u00adnal\u00adly devel\u00adoped by Mur\u00adray Raney.<\/p>\n

Basset\u2019s research has been on the fore\u00adfront of the cor\u00adre\u00adla\u00adtion of reac\u00adtions which occur at the active sites of het\u00adero\u00adg\u00ade\u00adnized sur\u00adface organomet\u00adal\u00adl\u00adlic cat\u00ada\u00adlysts and solu\u00adtion phase reac\u00adtions of organometal\u00adlic cat\u00ada\u00adlysts. This has allowed him to design well defined sur\u00adface cat\u00ada\u00adlysts that cat\u00adalyze reac\u00adtions that some\u00adtimes won\u2019t occur in the homo\u00adge\u00adneous phase. His pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion was titled \u201cNew Cat\u00adalyt\u00adic Reac\u00adtions Dis\u00adcov\u00adered via Sur\u00adface Organometal\u00adlic Chem\u00adistry\u201d.<\/p>\n

Rothenberg\u2019s research has pro\u00advid\u00aded nov\u00adel, lig\u00adand-free cat\u00ada\u00adlysts for car\u00adbon-car\u00adbon cou\u00adpling reac\u00adtions, as well as unique cat\u00ada\u00adlysts for selec\u00adtive oxida\u00adtive dehy\u00addro\u00adgena\u00adtion. Recent\u00adly he has devel\u00adoped high-through\u00adput data analy\u00adsis meth\u00adods and cat\u00ada\u00adlyst descrip\u00adtor mod\u00adels to bet\u00adter find the best homo\u00adge\u00adneous cat\u00ada\u00adlyst for a par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtion. His pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion was enti\u00adtled \u201cHow to Find the Best Homo\u00adge\u00adneous Cat\u00ada\u00adlyst\u201d.<\/p>\n

Yamauchi\u2019s research inves\u00adti\u00adgat\u00aded improved meth\u00adods for prepar\u00ading pre\u00adcur\u00adsors to skele\u00adtal cat\u00ada\u00adlysts, nov\u00adel bimetal\u00adlic com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtions, and appli\u00adca\u00adtion of improved cop\u00adper cat\u00ada\u00adlysts to the hydra\u00adtion of acry\u00adloni\u00adtrile and hydro\u00adgena\u00adtion of car\u00adbon diox\u00adide. His talk was enti\u00adtled \u201cSyn\u00adthe\u00adsis and Fea\u00adtures of New Raney Cat\u00ada\u00adlysts from Metastable Pre\u00adcur\u00adsors\u201d.<\/p>\n
