Her\u00adman Pines was an out\u00adstand\u00ading research sci\u00aden\u00adtist, and his work rev\u00ado\u00adlu\u00adtion\u00adized the gen\u00ader\u00adal under\u00adstand\u00ading of organ\u00adic chem\u00adistry, par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly the chem\u00adistry of hydro\u00adcar\u00adbons inter\u00adact\u00ading with strong acids. The award in his hon\u00ador is spon\u00adsored by UOP where Her\u00adman began his indus\u00adtri\u00adal career in 1930 and amassed 145 US patents over a 23&nbsp;year peri\u00adod. The award is being co-spon\u00adsored by the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Club of Chica\u00adgo of which Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Pines was a found\u00ading mem\u00adber. The award will be pre\u00adsent\u00aded at the 2007 Spring Sym\u00adpo\u00adsium of the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Club of Chica\u00adgo.
