Indus\u00adtri\u00adal nitro\u00adgen fix\u00ada\u00adtion (N2 NH3) rev\u00ado\u00adlu\u00adtion\u00adized the pro\u00adduc\u00adtion of fer\u00adtil\u00adiz\u00ader and enabled the pop\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtion explo\u00adsion of the 20th cen\u00adtu\u00adry, con\u00adsum\u00ading sev\u00ader\u00adal per\u00adcent of the world\u2019s ener\u00adgy annu\u00adal\u00adly in the process. NOX reduc\u00adtion (NOX N2) is inte\u00adgral to reduc\u00ading the adverse impacts of auto\u00admo\u00adbile use on urban air qual\u00adi\u00adty and health. These and oth\u00ader suc\u00adcess\u00adful tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies all depend at their heart on het\u00adero\u00adge\u00adneous catal\u00ady\u00adsis. In this pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion, I will dis\u00adcuss the insights we have gained by apply\u00ading mol\u00ade\u00adc\u00adu\u00adlar-lev\u00adel mod\u00adels and con\u00adcepts to nitro\u00adgen cat\u00adalyt\u00adic chem\u00adistry. Exam\u00adples will be drawn from our work on the selec\u00adtive cat\u00adalyt\u00adic reduc\u00adtion of NOX, a prob\u00adlem that has led us to rethink the fac\u00adtors that gov\u00adern reac\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adty in zeo\u00adlites, from NO and NH3 oxi\u00adda\u00adtion, prob\u00adlems that have caused us to revis\u00adit how we mod\u00adel reac\u00adtions at met\u00adal sur\u00adfaces, and from N2 reduc\u00adtion, where we are explor\u00ading the poten\u00adtial to bypass the con\u00adstraints imposed by moth\u00ader nature on the per\u00adfor\u00admance of con\u00adven\u00adtion\u00adal cat\u00ada\u00adlysts. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 2019 Prof. William Schnei\u00adder, H.
