Crentz Cen\u00adten\u00adni\u00adal Chair in Ener\u00adgy Research<\/i><br>\n<i>Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Mary\u00adland, Col\u00adlege Park, MD<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Abstract: &nbsp;<\/b>Mem\u00adbrane reac\u00adtor tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy holds the promise to cir\u00adcum\u00advent ther\u00admo\u00addy\u00adnam\u00adic equi\u00adlib\u00adri\u00adum lim\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtions by <i>in-situ<\/i> removal of prod\u00aduct species, result\u00ading in improved chem\u00adi\u00adcal yields. &nbsp;Recent advances in mixed-con\u00adduct\u00ading oxide-mem\u00adbrane tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy present the pos\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty for a dra\u00admat\u00adic reduc\u00adtion in the cost of con\u00advert\u00ading petro\u00adle\u00adum, coal and bio\u00admass derived feed stocks to hydro\u00adgen and oth\u00ader \u201cval\u00adue added\u201d hydro\u00adcar\u00adbons. &nbsp;We have devel\u00adoped nov\u00adel mem\u00adbrane reac\u00adtor tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy, based on high tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adture pro\u00adton con\u00adduc\u00adtors, that can con\u00advert a wide range of hydro\u00adcar\u00adbons to pure H2, and syn\u00adgas for syn\u00adthe\u00adsis of liq\u00aduid fuels and chem\u00adi\u00adcal feed stocks. By simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adous H2 per\u00adme\u00adation and catal\u00ady\u00adsis, we have demon\u00adstrat\u00aded the abil\u00adi\u00adty to increase water gas shift yields &gt;70% over ther\u00admo\u00addy\u00adnam\u00adic lim\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtions. Sim\u00adi\u00adlar\u00adly, we have demon\u00adstrat\u00aded increas\u00ades in steam reform\u00ading yields, and the abil\u00adi\u00adty to reform CH4 with CO2.<\/p>\n<p>More recent\u00adly we have devel\u00adoped sin\u00adgle-step gas to liq\u00aduid reac\u00adtors that con\u00advert nat\u00adur\u00adal gas to C2+ prod\u00aducts with high yields and no unwant\u00aded oxi\u00adda\u00adtion byprod\u00aducts. The direct uti\u00adliza\u00adtion of CH4 and CO2 to simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adous\u00adly pro\u00adduce C2+ hydro\u00adcar\u00adbons (C2 and aro\u00admat\u00adics) and syn\u00adgas (CO and H2) on oppo\u00adsite sides of a mixed pro\u00adton\u00adic-elec\u00adtron\u00adic con\u00adduct\u00ading SrCe0.7Zr0.2Eu0.1O3-\u03b4 mem\u00adbrane reac\u00adtor is demon\u00adstrat\u00aded. On one side (inte\u00adri\u00ador) of the mem\u00adbrane reac\u00adtor, direct non-oxida\u00adtive methane con\u00adver\u00adsion (DNMC) over an iron\/silica cat\u00ada\u00adlyst pro\u00adduces C2+ hydro\u00adcar\u00adbons and H2. On the oth\u00ader side (out\u00ader sur\u00adface) of the mem\u00adbrane, per\u00adme\u00adat\u00aded H2 (dri\u00adving the DNMC reac\u00adtion) reacts with a CO2 sweep gas to form CO and water via the reverse water gas shift (RWGS) reac\u00adtion. This nov\u00adel sin\u00adgle H2-per\u00adme\u00adable mem\u00adbrane reac\u00adtor simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adous\u00adly address\u00ades both reduc\u00adtion of green\u00adhouse gas (CO2 and CH4) emis\u00adsions as well as pro\u00adduc\u00adtion of val\u00adue-added hydro\u00adcar\u00adbon prod\u00aducts (C2+, CO, and H2) with <i>in situ<\/i> gas sep\u00ada\u00adra\u00adtion. &nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March2019 Prof. Eric D.
