The cat\u00ada\u00adlysts in these reac\u00adtors are engi\u00adneered to obtain the required (steady state) through\u00adput of prod\u00aduct over a cer\u00adtain time. In addi\u00adtion to through\u00adput, there are addi\u00adtion\u00adal com\u00admer\u00adcial\u00adiza\u00adtion con\u00adstraints that involve cost, uptime, emis\u00adsions, and project tim\u00ading. The prop\u00ader design of the cat\u00ada\u00adlyst and reac\u00adtor often is key to the suc\u00adcess\u00adful deploy\u00adment of the process.<br>\nIn addi\u00adtion to iden\u00adti\u00adfy\u00ading the active site and the reac\u00adtion mech\u00ada\u00adnism, addi\u00adtion\u00adal appli\u00adca\u00adtion devel\u00adop\u00adment work is required to com\u00admer\u00adcial\u00adize a cat\u00ada\u00adlyst. The active site must func\u00adtion with\u00adin a range of oper\u00adat\u00ading con\u00addi\u00adtions and in the pres\u00adence of impu\u00adri\u00adties that may impact activ\u00adi\u00adty and selec\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adty. Reac\u00adtor pres\u00adsure drop con\u00adstraints can dic\u00adtate the size and struc\u00adture of the cat\u00ada\u00adlyst. The avail\u00adabil\u00adi\u00adty of active sites in a pel\u00adlet is max\u00adi\u00admized by opti\u00admiz\u00ading its size, shape and pore struc\u00adture to min\u00adi\u00admize heat and mass trans\u00adport lim\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtions. The num\u00adber of active sites in a cat\u00ada\u00adlyst may dra\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly decrease with time due to poi\u00adson\u00ading, mask\u00ading, sin\u00adter\u00ading, or pore block\u00adage.
