\nAbstract:<\/strong> Irid\u00adi\u00adum com\u00adplex\u00ades have played a lead\u00ading role in the organometal\u00adlic chem\u00adistry of
\nalka\u00adnes and unre\u00adac\u00adtive C-H bonds since the incep\u00adtion of the field 30 years ago. We have found
\nthat \u201cPCP\u201d-pincer-ligated irid\u00adi\u00adum com\u00adplex\u00ades are par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly effec\u00adtive for the dehy\u00addro\u00adgena\u00adtion of
\nalka\u00adnes and have incor\u00adpo\u00adrat\u00aded this reac\u00adtion into tan\u00addem sys\u00adtems for sev\u00ader\u00adal cat\u00adalyt\u00adic
\ntrans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtions based on dehy\u00addro\u00adgena\u00adtion. A close\u00adly relat\u00aded class of reac\u00adtions that we are
\nexplor\u00ading is dehy\u00addro\u00adgena\u00adtive cou\u00adpling. More recent\u00adly we have turned atten\u00adtion to irid\u00adi\u00adum
\nPhe\u00adbox com\u00adplex\u00ades. Although the (PCP)Ir and (Phebox)Ir units are for\u00admal\u00adly iso\u00adelec\u00adtron\u00adic, the
\nfor\u00admer oper\u00adates via C-H acti\u00adva\u00adtion by Ir(I) while the lat\u00adter effects dehy\u00addro\u00adgena\u00adtion via Ir(III) (as
\nan acetate com\u00adplex) and pos\u00adsi\u00adbly Ir(V) inter\u00adme\u00addi\u00adates. Such a high-oxi\u00adda\u00adtion-state cat\u00adalyt\u00adic cycle
\noffers advan\u00adtages for many poten\u00adtial appli\u00adca\u00adtions of dehy\u00addro\u00adgena\u00adtion. In par\u00adal\u00adlel, how\u00adev\u00ader, we
\nfind that the low-oxi\u00adda\u00adtion-state (+I) chem\u00adistry of (Phebox)Ir offers its own nov\u00adel hydro\u00adcar\u00adbon
\nchem\u00adistry.
