The indus\u00adtri\u00adal appli\u00adca\u00adtion of a pre\u00adcious met\u00adal cat\u00ada\u00adlyst such as Pt, how\u00adev\u00ader, can be hin\u00addered by deac\u00adti\u00adva\u00adtion and high price. We have there\u00adfore explored the mode of deac\u00adti\u00adva\u00adtion dur\u00ading alco\u00adhol oxi\u00adda\u00adtion on Pt by in-situ spec\u00adtroscopy and stud\u00adied the role of var\u00adi\u00adous pro\u00admot\u00aders on cat\u00ada\u00adlyst per\u00adfor\u00admance. Results con\u00adfirm that slow decar\u00adbony\u00adla\u00adtion of prod\u00aduct alde\u00adhyde deposit\u00aded unsat\u00adu\u00adrat\u00aded hydro\u00adcar\u00adbon on the sur\u00adface that blocked access to the active sites. Addi\u00adtion of Bi as a pro\u00admot\u00ader did not pre\u00advent the decar\u00adbony\u00adla\u00adtion side reac\u00adtion, but instead enhanced the acti\u00adva\u00adtion of dioxy\u00adgen dur\u00ading the cat\u00adalyt\u00adic cycle. In an effort to avoid the use of pre\u00adcious met\u00adals alto\u00adgeth\u00ader, the oxi\u00adda\u00adtion of alco\u00adhols over atom\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly-dis\u00adpersed, non-pre\u00adcious met\u00adal cations (Fe, Cu, and Co) locat\u00aded in a nitro\u00adgen-doped car\u00adbon matrix was demon\u00adstrat\u00aded. Exten\u00adsive char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adi\u00adza\u00adtion of these non-pre\u00adcious met\u00adal cat\u00ada\u00adlysts revealed impor\u00adtant insights into the oxi\u00adda\u00adtion mech\u00ada\u00adnism and sta\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty of this new class of atom\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly-dis\u00adpersed met\u00adal cat\u00ada\u00adlyst.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2018 Spring Sym\u00adpo\u00adsium Robert J.
