Impor\u00adtant exam\u00adples include sup\u00adport effects with ceria and the so-called \u201cIntel\u00adli\u00adgent Cat\u00ada\u00adlysts\u201d in which the met\u00adal can be redis\u00adpersed by reversible ex-solu\u00adtion from a per\u00adovskite lat\u00adtice. How\u00adev\u00ader, the sur\u00adface areas of these func\u00adtion\u00adal sup\u00adports are often too low or unsta\u00adble; and, in the case of per\u00adovskites, the length scales for ingress and egress may be too long to take advan\u00adtage of the effect. We are address\u00ading these issues by deposit\u00ading very thin films of var\u00adi\u00adous func\u00adtion\u00adal oxides, ~0.5 to 2 nm thick, onto high-sur\u00adface-area sup\u00adports, includ\u00ading Al<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub> and MgAl<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>4<\/sub> , by Atom\u00adic Lay\u00ader Depo\u00adsi\u00adtion. We have demon\u00adstrat\u00aded that a wide range of oxides can be deposit\u00aded as dense, uni\u00adform, con\u00adfor\u00admal films on var\u00adi\u00adous sup\u00adports. The films exhib\u00adit sur\u00adpris\u00ading\u00adly good ther\u00admal sta\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty and pro\u00advide cat\u00adalyt\u00adic prop\u00ader\u00adties sim\u00adi\u00adlar to that observed with bulk oxides, but with high\u00ader sur\u00adface areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2018 Spring Sym\u00adpo\u00adsium Ray\u00admond J.
