Even when the sol\u00advent does not play a direct role in the reac\u00adtion mech\u00ada\u00adnism, it can sta\u00adbi\u00adlize or desta\u00adbi\u00adlize adsor\u00adbates, inter\u00adme\u00addi\u00adates, and tran\u00adsi\u00adtion states, often lead\u00ading to marked\u00adly dif\u00adfer\u00adent rates and selec\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adties between sol\u00advent choic\u00ades.<sup>3\u20135<\/sup> How\u00adev\u00ader, sol\u00advent effects are poor\u00adly under\u00adstood because cat\u00ada\u00adlyst char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adi\u00adza\u00adtion tech\u00adniques, such as probe mol\u00ade\u00adcule adsorp\u00adtion in FTIR, are most often con\u00adduct\u00aded under vac\u00adu\u00adum or in vapor phase.<sup>6,7<\/sup> Fur\u00adther, most stud\u00adies on sol\u00advent effects focus on screen\u00ading sol\u00advents via cat\u00adalyt\u00adic activ\u00adi\u00adty test\u00ading, where mul\u00adti\u00adple fac\u00adtors that can influ\u00adence reac\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adty exist simul\u00adta\u00adne\u00adous\u00adly: com\u00adpet\u00adi\u00adtive adsorp\u00adtion, sta\u00adbi\u00adliza\u00adtion of reac\u00adtants and tran\u00adsi\u00adtion states, and phase equi\u00adlib\u00adria dif\u00adfer\u00adences. Thus, there is cur\u00adrent\u00adly a need for exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal tech\u00adniques capa\u00adble of extract\u00ading fun\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtal ther\u00admo\u00addy\u00adnam\u00adic prop\u00ader\u00adties of sol\u00advents in sim\u00adple sys\u00adtems, with the end goal of decou\u00adpling the effects of sol\u00advent in cat\u00adalyt\u00adic activ\u00adi\u00adty tests.<sup>8<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Atten\u00adu\u00adat\u00aded total reflec\u00adtion (ATR) fouri\u00ader trans\u00adform infrared spec\u00adtroscopy (FTIR) was used to char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adize zeo\u00adlites with probe mol\u00ade\u00adcules in the pres\u00adence of sol\u00advent. The ATR-FTIR was fur\u00adther devel\u00adoped into a quan\u00adti\u00adta\u00adtive tech\u00adnique, with a pro\u00adce\u00addure for deter\u00admin\u00ading extinc\u00adtion coef\u00adfi\u00adcients for adsorbed pyri\u00addine on zeo\u00adlites in the pres\u00adence of sol\u00advent.<sup>9<\/sup> This allowed for quan\u00adti\u00adta\u00adtive com\u00adpar\u00adisons of the effect of sol\u00advent on probe mol\u00ade\u00adcule uptake and pro\u00adto\u00adna\u00adtion in zeo\u00adlite pores. Ongo\u00ading appli\u00adca\u00adtions of the ATR-FTIR cell include adsorp\u00adtion isotherms, dif\u00adfu\u00adsion mea\u00adsure\u00adments, and tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adture pro\u00adgrammed des\u00adorp\u00adtion (TPD) in porous mate\u00adri\u00adals in liq\u00aduid phase. Fur\u00adther, the effect of sol\u00advent on charge sta\u00adbi\u00adliza\u00adtion in zeo\u00adlite pores was stud\u00adied using a home\u00admade TPD set up under back pres\u00adsur\u00adized, flow\u00ading sol\u00advent. Pre\u00adlim\u00adi\u00adnary pyri\u00addine des\u00adorp\u00adtion tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adtures from an H\/ZSM-5 sam\u00adple reveal that the abil\u00adi\u00adty of a sol\u00advent to sta\u00adbi\u00adlize pyri\u00addini\u00adum ions decreas\u00ades in the order: water &gt; ace\u00adtoni\u00adtrile &gt; alka\u00adne \u2248 vac\u00adu\u00adum.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Ref\u00ader\u00adences:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>G.
