Irre\u00adspec\u00adtive of the approach that is pur\u00adsued, oxy\u00adgen evo\u00adlu\u00adtion from water is the crit\u00adi\u00adcal reac\u00adtion, because water is the only cheap, clean and abun\u00addant source that is capa\u00adble of com\u00adplet\u00ading the redox cycle for pro\u00adduc\u00ading either hydro\u00adgen (from H<sub>2<\/sub>O) or car\u00adbona\u00adceous fuels (from CO<sub>2<\/sub>) on a ter\u00adawatt scale. Here, we will show our recent stud\u00adies in meso\u00adporous spinel sys\u00adtems, which sug\u00adgest the met\u00adal sit\u00adting at the octa\u00adhe\u00addral site has huge impact on the water oxi\u00adda\u00adtion activ\u00adi\u00adty of spinel cat\u00ada\u00adlysts. Anoth\u00ader top\u00adic will be dis\u00adcussed in the pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion is the devel\u00adop\u00adment of selec\u00adtive and robust CO<sub>2<\/sub> reduc\u00adtion elec\u00adtro\u00adcat\u00ada\u00adlyst. We will present a nanoporous Ag elec\u00adtro\u00adcat\u00ada\u00adlyst, which is able to elec\u00adtro\u00adchem\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly reduce CO<sub>2<\/sub> to CO with a ~92% selec\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adty at a rate (i.e. cur\u00adrent) of over 3000 times high\u00ader than its poly\u00adcrys\u00adtalline coun\u00adter\u00adpart under a mod\u00ader\u00adate over\u00adpo\u00adten\u00adtial of less than 0.50&nbsp;V. Such an excep\u00adtion\u00adal\u00adly high activ\u00adi\u00adty is a result of a large elec\u00adtro\u00adchem\u00adi\u00adcal sur\u00adface area (ca. 150 times larg\u00ader) and intrin\u00adsi\u00adcal\u00adly high activ\u00adi\u00adties (ca. 20 times high\u00ader) com\u00adpared to poly\u00adcrys\u00adtalline Ag.<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/catalysisclubphilly.org\/abstracts\/10\/attachment\/feng_jiao\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3955\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/catalysisclubphilly.org\/awe9a91v\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Feng_Jiao-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"Feng_Jiao\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3955\" srcset=\"https:\/\/catalysisclubphilly.org\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Feng_Jiao-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/catalysisclubphilly.org\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Feng_Jiao-207x290.jpg 207w, https:\/\/catalysisclubphilly.org\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Feng_Jiao-624x873.jpg 624w, https:\/\/catalysisclubphilly.org\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Feng_Jiao.jpg 714w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\"><\/a><strong>Biog\u00adra\u00adphy<\/strong> \u2014 Feng Jiao obtained his BS in chem\u00adistry at Fudan Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty (2001) and his PhD degree in Chem\u00adistry at Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of St Andrews (Scot\u00adland, 2008), before mov\u00ading to Lawrence Berke\u00adley Nation\u00adal Lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry as a post\u00addoc schol\u00adar. He spent two years in Berke\u00adley devel\u00adop\u00ading solar fuel tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy and joined in the Chem\u00adi\u00adcal and Bio\u00admol\u00ade\u00adc\u00adu\u00adlar Engi\u00adneer\u00ading Depart\u00adment at the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Delaware as an assis\u00adtant pro\u00adfes\u00adsor in 2010. He has already pub\u00adlished more than 35 jour\u00adnal papers in lead\u00ading sci\u00aden\u00adtif\u00adic jour\u00adnals, such as Nature Com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adca\u00adtions, J. Am. Chem. Soc., and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.
