By tak\u00ading the brunt of the emis\u00adsion reduc\u00adtion, these high\u00adly effec\u00adtive sys\u00adtems allowed the engines to be designed and tuned for max\u00adi\u00admum fuel effi\u00adcien\u00adcy and min\u00adi\u00admum CO<sub>2<\/sub> emis\u00adsions. <\/p>\n<p>Unlike their gaso\u00adline emis\u00adsion con\u00adtrol pre\u00adde\u00adces\u00adsors, diesel sys\u00adtems include mul\u00adti\u00adple cat\u00ada\u00adlysts with dis\u00adtinct func\u00adtions, along with a vari\u00adety of sen\u00adsors and actu\u00ada\u00adtors, thus rep\u00adre\u00adsent\u00ading ver\u00adi\u00adta\u00adble chem\u00adi\u00adcal plants. For exam\u00adple, the emis\u00adsion con\u00adtrol sys\u00adtem com\u00admer\u00adcial\u00adized in Cum\u00admins-pow\u00adered 2010 heavy-duty diesel vehi\u00adcles includes four dis\u00adtinct cat\u00adalyt\u00adic devices, a diesel oxi\u00adda\u00adtion cat\u00ada\u00adlyst (DOC), cat\u00adalyzed diesel par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlate fil\u00adter (DPF), selec\u00adtive cat\u00adalyt\u00adic reduc\u00adtion (SCR) cat\u00ada\u00adlyst, and an ammo\u00adnia slip selec\u00adtive oxi\u00adda\u00adtion cat\u00ada\u00adlyst (ASC). The sys\u00adtem fur\u00adther includes eight sen\u00adsors, and two flu\u00adid injec\u00adtors, along with the respec\u00adtive con\u00adtrols and diag\u00adnos\u00adtic algo\u00adrithms. Anoth\u00ader sys\u00adtem, com\u00admer\u00adcial\u00adized by Cum\u00admins in 2007 and 2010 Dodge Ram pick\u00adups, is based on a NOx adsor\u00adber cat\u00ada\u00adlyst and rep\u00adre\u00adsents sim\u00adi\u00adlar lev\u00adel of sophis\u00adti\u00adca\u00adtion.  Under\u00adly\u00ading the sys\u00adtem-lev\u00adel com\u00adplex\u00adi\u00adty is the intri\u00adca\u00adcy of the indi\u00advid\u00adual cat\u00adalyt\u00adic ele\u00adments, some of which include mul\u00adti\u00adple dis\u00adtinct chem\u00adi\u00adcal func\u00adtions and com\u00adplex topol\u00ado\u00adgy. <\/p>\n<p>Pre\u00addictably, life\u00adcy\u00adcles of such sys\u00adtems are shaped by the behav\u00adiors of the indi\u00advid\u00adual cat\u00adalyt\u00adic ele\u00adments and their inter\u00adac\u00adtions.
