The zeo\u00adlite con\u00adtains two inde\u00adpen\u00addent pore sys\u00adtems, both of which are accessed through rings com\u00adprised of ten tetra\u00adhe\u00addral (T) atoms (such as Si, Al, and B). One of these pore sys\u00adtems is defined by two-dimen\u00adsion\u00adal, sinu\u00adsoidal chan\u00adnels and the oth\u00ader is defined by large 12-MR supercages with an inner free diam\u00ade\u00adter of 0.71 nm and a height of 1.82 nm. Vir\u00adtu\u00adal\u00adly all acid cat\u00adalyzed reac\u00adtions take place in pock\u00adets formed from the sur\u00adface ter\u00admi\u00adna\u00adtion of the 1.82 nm high and 0.71 nm diam\u00ade\u00adter supercages. The zeo\u00adlite has been eval\u00adu\u00adat\u00aded and found promis\u00ading for a num\u00adber of acid-cat\u00adalyzed reac\u00adtions. Most impor\u00adtant\u00adly, it has been found to be unusu\u00adal\u00adly selec\u00adtive for aro\u00admat\u00adic alky\u00adla\u00adtion in the pres\u00adence of a wide range of olefins under liq\u00aduid phase con\u00addi\u00adtions. Deg\u00adnan<\/p><\/div><strong>Biog\u00adra\u00adphy<\/strong> \u2014 Tom received his B.S. in chem\u00adi\u00adcal engi\u00adneer\u00ading from the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Notre Dame, a Ph.D. in the same dis\u00adci\u00adpline from the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Delaware, and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Min\u00adneso\u00adta. He spent four years in 3M\u2019s Cen\u00adtral Research orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtion in St. Paul, MN before mov\u00ading to Mobil Research and Devel\u00adop\u00adment in 1980.\n<p>Tom has spent most of his career in explorato\u00adry process devel\u00adop\u00adment, catal\u00ady\u00adsis, cat\u00ada\u00adlyst devel\u00adop\u00adment, and research man\u00adage\u00adment work\u00ading for Mobil and now Exxon\u00adMo\u00adbil Research and Engi\u00adneer\u00ading Com\u00adpa\u00adny.
