In par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar, his work to under\u00adstand the phys\u00adi\u00adcal and chem\u00adi\u00adcal prop\u00ader\u00adties of bimetal\u00adlic and met\u00adal car\u00adbide sur\u00adfaces has inspired new appli\u00adca\u00adtion to cat\u00adalyt\u00adic and fuel cell process\u00ades. Chen is also well known for his exper\u00adtise in apply\u00ading advanced tech\u00adniques such as NEXAFS to iden\u00adti\u00adfy and char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adize reac\u00adtive species in real world cat\u00ada\u00adlysts.<\/p>\n<p>Chen is the cofounder and the prin\u00adci\u00adpal inves\u00adti\u00adga\u00adtor of the Syn\u00adchro\u00adtron Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Con\u00adsor\u00adtium (SCC) at the Nation\u00adal Syn\u00adchro\u00adtron Light Source, Brookhaven Nation\u00adal Lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adry. He is a mem\u00adber of the board of direc\u00adtors of the North Amer\u00adi\u00adcan Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety and also serves as the catal\u00ady\u00adsis sec\u00adre\u00adtary-gen\u00ader\u00adal of the Amer\u00adi\u00adcan Chem\u00adi\u00adcal Soci\u00adety.<\/p>\n<p>The Excel\u00adlence in Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Award lec\u00adture will take place in  May 21<sup>st<\/sup> where Chen will also receive a plaque and cash award.
