Gaffney<\/strong><br>\n<em>AMG Catal\u00ady\u00adsis and Chem\u00adistry Con\u00adsult\u00ading, LLC<\/em><br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nAbstract \u2014 This sem\u00adi\u00adnar will dis\u00adcuss a new\u00adly patent\u00aded cat\u00adalyt\u00adic process and cat\u00ada\u00adlyst for the selec\u00adtive, oxida\u00adtive dehy\u00addro\u00adgena\u00adtion (ODH) of ethane to eth\u00adyl\u00adene.  Recent advances in shale gas tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy, espe\u00adcial\u00adly as prac\u00adticed in the Unit\u00aded States, has sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant\u00adly improved the eco\u00adnom\u00adics around pro\u00adduc\u00ading eth\u00adyl\u00adene and has rev\u00ado\u00adlu\u00adtion\u00adized man\u00adu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00ading approach\u00ades to basic chem\u00adi\u00adcals, poly\u00admers and mate\u00adri\u00adals.  Ethane is sec\u00adond to methane as a major hydro\u00adcar\u00adbon com\u00adpo\u00adnent of shale gas, serv\u00ading as the pre\u00adcur\u00adsor to eth\u00adyl\u00adene.  Eth\u00adyl\u00adene is used to pro\u00adduce a wide vari\u00adety of con\u00adsumer goods, includ\u00ading pack\u00adag\u00ading, build\u00ading <span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span> auto\u00admo\u00adtive mate\u00adri\u00adals, fibers, tires and bot\u00adtles.  In 2012, a num\u00adber of U.S. chem\u00adi\u00adcal com\u00adpa\u00adnies announced plans to invest in new plant capac\u00adi\u00adty, expand exist\u00ading facil\u00adi\u00adties, or re-open plants near shale gas sup\u00adplies, pri\u00admar\u00adi\u00adly based on the assump\u00adtion that the U.S. is enter\u00ading a peri\u00adod of sus\u00adtained low nat\u00adur\u00adal gas prices and grow\u00ading sup\u00adply. <\/p>\n<p>This selec\u00adtive ODH process pro\u00advides an alter\u00adna\u00adtive to eth\u00adyl\u00adene pro\u00adduc\u00adtion via naph\u00adtha or ethane crack\u00ading.  In addi\u00adtion to replac\u00ading these crack\u00aders and recy\u00adcle crack\u00aders, the eth\u00adyl\u00adene prod\u00aduct efflu\u00adent from the ODH process may be used to feed eth\u00adyl benzene\/styrene monomer and eth\u00adyl\u00adene oxide plants.
