Some\u00adtimes these exper\u00adi\u00adments lead to unex\u00adpect\u00aded, sur\u00adpris\u00ading, con\u00adtra\u00addic\u00adto\u00adry results which usu\u00adal\u00adly gen\u00ader\u00adate var\u00adi\u00adous spec\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtive expla\u00adna\u00adtions. In this pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion I\u2019ll illus\u00adtrate through a few exam\u00adples how mol\u00ade\u00adc\u00adu\u00adlar mod\u00adel\u00ading can help in resolv\u00ading con\u00adflicts between ideas and empir\u00adi\u00adcal find\u00adings. I intend to show that the com\u00admon\u00adly avail\u00adable com\u00adput\u00ader pow\u00ader and mod\u00adel\u00ading pro\u00adgrams have devel\u00adoped so much dur\u00ading the past few years that even an exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal\u00adist with lim\u00adit\u00aded resources and the\u00ado\u00adret\u00adi\u00adcal back\u00adground can mim\u00adic var\u00adi\u00adous empir\u00adi\u00adcal data which is the basis to under\u00adstand\u00ading mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal prop\u00ader\u00adties at the mol\u00ade\u00adc\u00adu\u00adlar lev\u00adel. It will be also shown how com\u00adput\u00ader chem\u00adistry can lead to improved quan\u00adtifi\u00adca\u00adtion of oth\u00ader\u00adwise rou\u00adtine\u00adly mea\u00adsured mol\u00ade\u00adc\u00adu\u00adlar spec\u00adtro\u00adscop\u00adic data. The pre\u00adsent\u00aded exam\u00adples will include mod\u00adel cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adtions based on force field relat\u00aded Monte Car\u00adlo algo\u00adrithm, time depen\u00addent den\u00adsi\u00adty func\u00adtion\u00adal the\u00ado\u00adry, and a com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion of quan\u00adtum mechanical\/molecular mechan\u00adi\u00adcal meth\u00adods. Sim\u00adu\u00adlat\u00aded exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal sorp\u00adtion isotherms and FTUV spec\u00adtra of two hydropho\u00adbic zeo\u00adlites will be pre\u00adsent\u00aded to explain their unusu\u00adal sorp\u00adtion prop\u00ader\u00adties and redox cat\u00adalyt\u00adic activ\u00adi\u00adties. More\u00adover, we com\u00adpare the mod\u00adel and exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal FTIR and laser Raman spec\u00adtra of some amor\u00adphous sil\u00adi\u00adcates and present the first exper\u00adi\u00admen\u00adtal proof that sil\u00adi\u00adca gels obtained from aque\u00adous alka\u00adline sil\u00adi\u00adcate solu\u00adtions or tetra-eth\u00adyl-orthosil\u00adi\u00adcate at acidic or basic con\u00addi\u00adtions can have dis\u00adtinct mol\u00ade\u00adc\u00adu\u00adlar struc\u00adtures which affect their final phys\u00adi\u00adcal prop\u00ader\u00adties.

Lat\u00ader he was award\u00aded magna cum laude doc\u00adtor\u00adate degree from the same uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty and a high\u00ader degree from the Hun\u00adgar\u00adi\u00adan Acad\u00ade\u00admy of Sci\u00adences, HAS. Fol\u00adlow\u00ading three years of teach\u00ading phys\u00adi\u00adcal chem\u00adistry, he joined the Hun\u00adgar\u00adi\u00adan Hydro\u00adcar\u00adbon Insti\u00adtute, where he devel\u00adoped new, eco\u00adnom\u00adic process\u00ades for phar\u00adma\u00adceu\u00adti\u00adcal, fine chem\u00adi\u00adcal and petro\u00adchem\u00adi\u00adcal plants and stud\u00adied the fun\u00adda\u00admen\u00adtals of acid-base catal\u00ady\u00adsis over met\u00adal oxides. As a young sci\u00aden\u00adtist he won sev\u00ader\u00adal com\u00adpet\u00adi\u00adtive awards and a research schol\u00adar\u00adship for the Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy in Vien\u00adna, Aus\u00adtria. After 12 years of indus\u00adtri\u00adal research, he moved to the Chem\u00adi\u00adcal Research Insti\u00adtute of HAS where his major research top\u00adics includ\u00aded shape selec\u00adtive catal\u00ady\u00adsis on zeo\u00adlites and syn\u00adthe\u00adsis of high tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adture ceram\u00adic super\u00adcon\u00adduc\u00adtors. Ist\u00advan also worked as post\u00addoc\u00adtor\u00adal researcher at Wayne State Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty and Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Iowa, focus\u00ading main\u00adly on the cat\u00adalyt\u00adic abate\u00adment of auto\u00admo\u00adbile exhausts and indus\u00adtri\u00adal stack gas\u00ades.
