Graduate Students: Apply for the Theodore A. Koch Travel Award (2021–2022)

Dear Friends,

The Catalysis Club of Philadelphia (CCP) is taking applications for the Theodore A. Koch Travel Award.

The award is sponsored in memory of T.A. Koch in order to recognize and reward graduate student achievements in catalysis research. T.A. Koch (1925–2014) was a chemist who worked at DuPont, and spent his entire career developing chemical processes and bringing them from the benchtop to commercialization with marked creativity and tenacity. The award will provide financial support to a graduate student up to the amount of $1000 to attend a conference of his or her choice. The amount can be used to cover registration fees and/or travel expenses.

Eligibility: Graduate students that are members of the CCP and have paid the annual dues ($10). Selection will be based on the potential impact of the travel award on the student’s career goals, financial need, and overall merit.

The application form (see link below) is due February 17th, 2020, and the winner will be announced at our February 27th meeting.

Please send applications to Parag Shah (parag.shah@pqcorp.com)

Call for Nominations: 2021 CCP Award

Each year the Catalysis Club of Philadelphia recognizes an outstanding member of the catalysis community, who has made significant contributions to the advancement of catalysis. Such advancement can be scientific, technological, or in organizational leadership. The Award consists of a plaque and a $1,000 cash prize.

We appreciate your help in submitting nominations. The entire nomination package, including a resume and recommendation letters, should not be more than 10 pages and should include a ½ page tentative award announcement. The deadline for the receipt of nominations is April 9, 2021. Prior nomination packages sent in 2019 or later will automatically be considered for the 2021 Award.

@CAT — A new online catalysis and reaction engineering community

Dear colleagues,

We want to let you know about a new online community for the international catalysis and reaction engineering (CRE) community: @CAT. @CAT aims to include everyone who identifies as part of the CRE community, including but not limited to homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, surface science, biocatalysis, theory, computation, and experimental areas. Members from industry, government, academia, non-profit and other organizations, as well as all stages of career are welcome. You can join the @CAT community at https://discord.gg/E2sjdyRXBz.

@CAT is hosted by Discord, and it is like a combination of chat and video conferencing with channels for various topics that we may want to interact on.

We look forward to interacting with you there!

Best wishes,

Omar Abdelrahman and John Kitchin

Dear Catalysis Community,

During these very uncertain times, we remain focused on our objective to find the best way to bring our community safely together for a successful conference.  As we continue to monitor the evolving global situation, it has become clear an in-person conference in May 2021 will not be possible in the format we know to be for an effective meeting.  Working closely with our venue, we have agreed to postpone the conference one year to May 22–27, 2022

We believe this path will enable us to bring the community together once again for an in-person conference allowing for the valuable interactions and discussions we are used to. In the coming weeks, we will continue to update our website and communicate any additional relevant details.

We wish everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

With regards,

The Organizing Committee of the 27th North American Catalysis Society Meeting
