The Alter\u00adna\u00adtive Feed\u00adstock Pro\u00adgram at Dow Chem\u00adi\u00adcal is imple\u00adment\u00ading routes to olefin deriv\u00ada\u00adtives that would have been unthink\u00adable a decade ago. This talk will describe these efforts and, in par\u00adtic\u00adu\u00adlar, high\u00adlight the emer\u00adgence of bio-based poly\u00adeth\u00adyl\u00adene made by cat\u00adalyt\u00adic dehy\u00addra\u00adtion of ethanol to form eth\u00adyl\u00adene. Next gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion bioethanol options are described. The extinc\u00adtion of steam crack\u00aders is not immi\u00adnent, but new tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies are find\u00ading their place. New alco\u00adhol pro\u00adduc\u00adtion brings both vibran\u00adcy and uncer\u00adtain\u00adty to olefin pro\u00adduc\u00adtion.<br>\n<br>\n<strong>Speaker\u2019s Biog\u00adra\u00adphy<\/strong> \u2014 Mark began his career with Dow in 1998 work\u00ading in the Dow\u2019s Cen\u00adtral Research lab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adto\u00adries in Reac\u00adtion Engi\u00adneer\u00ading on a vari\u00adety of pro\u00adgrams rang\u00ading from tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal semi-batch poly\u00adol reac\u00adtors to mod\u00adel\u00ading polyurethane reac\u00adtions on straw in the pro\u00adduc\u00adtion of wheat par\u00adti\u00adcle\u00adboard. In 2002 he moved to Hydro\u00adcar\u00adbons Research for the sup\u00adport of Styrene Plants, dur\u00ading which time he worked on sev\u00ader\u00adal projects receiv\u00ading Tech Cen\u00adter Awards val\u00adued in total over $60MM and inte\u00adgrat\u00aded the tech\u00adni\u00adcal reac\u00adtor mod\u00adels into the com\u00admer\u00adcial cost mod\u00adels to opti\u00admize over\u00adall pro\u00adduc\u00adtion. In 2006 Mark tran\u00adsi\u00adtioned to olefins research where he is cur\u00adrent\u00adly work\u00ading on the intro\u00adduc\u00adtion of new tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies into tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal steam crack\u00aders and the devel\u00adop\u00adment of alter\u00adna\u00adtive feed\u00adstocks for olefins pro\u00adduc\u00adtion.
