As always, the Out\u00adlook for Ener\u00adgy focus\u00ades on sev\u00ader\u00adal key areas of inter\u00adest, which this year will include grow\u00ading trans\u00adporta\u00adtion and pow\u00ader gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion demands as well as the out\u00adlook for ener\u00adgy-relat\u00aded CO<sub>2<\/sub> emis\u00adsions.<\/p>\n<p>Eco\u00adnom\u00adic progress and grow\u00ading pop\u00adu\u00adla\u00adtions, espe\u00adcial\u00adly in devel\u00adop\u00ading coun\u00adtries, will dri\u00adve ener\u00adgy demand approx\u00adi\u00admate\u00adly 35% high\u00ader in 2030 ver\u00adsus 2005. This demand increase is antic\u00adi\u00adpat\u00aded despite sub\u00adstan\u00adtial effi\u00adcien\u00adcy gains, which are expect\u00aded to accel\u00ader\u00adate as new tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies are devel\u00adoped and deployed.<\/p>\n<p>Ris\u00ading trans\u00adporta\u00adtion needs will increase relat\u00aded ener\u00adgy require\u00adments approx\u00adi\u00admate\u00adly 40% by 2030, even as light-duty vehi\u00adcles with much bet\u00adter fuel econ\u00ado\u00admy pen\u00ade\u00adtrate the mar\u00adket. The rise in trans\u00adporta\u00adtion demand will be met pri\u00admar\u00adi\u00adly by oil, which will pro\u00advide close to 95 per\u00adcent of all trans\u00adporta\u00adtion fuels in 2030.<\/p>\n<p>As economies grow, glob\u00adal demand for elec\u00adtric\u00adi\u00adty is pro\u00adject\u00aded to increase 75 per\u00adcent by 2030. Con\u00adsis\u00adtent with this pro\u00adjec\u00adtion, ener\u00adgy for pow\u00ader gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion is expect\u00aded to remain the largest and fastest grow\u00ading seg\u00adment of glob\u00adal demand, dri\u00adven in large part by increas\u00ades in Asia Pacif\u00adic. Meet\u00ading the expect\u00aded world\u00adwide growth in pow\u00ader demand will require a diverse set of ener\u00adgy sources. Today coal is dom\u00adi\u00adnant and will retain the largest share glob\u00adal\u00adly through 2030; how\u00adev\u00ader, nat\u00adur\u00adal gas, nuclear, and renew\u00adables will all gain mar\u00adket share.<\/p>\n<p>In the sec\u00adond part of my talk, I\u2019ll describe that meet\u00ading this ener\u00adgy demand requires an inte\u00adgrat\u00aded set of solu\u00adtions, includ\u00ading expand\u00ading all types of sup\u00adply, improv\u00ading effi\u00adcien\u00adcy, and mit\u00adi\u00adgat\u00ading green\u00adhouse gas emis\u00adsions. I\u2019ll touch on exam\u00adples of how tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy will play a crit\u00adi\u00adcal role in meet\u00ading these chal\u00adlenges, and dis\u00adcuss ExxonMobil\u2019s alliance with a lead\u00ading biotech com\u00adpa\u00adny, Syn\u00adthet\u00adic Genomics Inc., to research and devel\u00adop next gen\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion bio\u00adfu\u00adels from pho\u00adto\u00adsyn\u00adthet\u00adic algae.<br>\n<br>\n<strong>Speaker\u2019s Biog\u00adra\u00adphy<\/strong> Alessan\u00addro Fal\u00addi \u2014 Alessan\u00addro has a Lau\u00adrea in Chem\u00adi\u00adcal Engi\u00adneer\u00ading from the Poly\u00adtech\u00adnic of Milan, Italy, and a Ph.
