In addi\u00adtion to the need for cat\u00adalyt\u00adic activ\u00adi\u00adty over a wide tem\u00adper\u00ada\u00adture range, the cat\u00ada\u00adlyst must show dura\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty towards extreme hydrother\u00admal aging con\u00addi\u00adtions. The use of zeolitic mate\u00adri\u00adals under such con\u00addi\u00adtions is espe\u00adcial\u00adly chal\u00adleng\u00ading due to the vul\u00adner\u00ada\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty of zeo\u00adlites to steam aging. The BASF dis\u00adcov\u00adery of the Cu-CHA cat\u00ada\u00adlyst for selec\u00adtive cat\u00adalyt\u00adic reduc\u00adtion (SCR) of NO<sub>x<\/sub> demon\u00adstrat\u00aded an effec\u00adtive bal\u00adance between favor\u00adable active sites and zeo\u00adlite frame\u00adwork dura\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty. It also paved the way for the imple\u00admen\u00adta\u00adtion of urea SCR as the key approach for NO<sub>x<\/sub> reduc\u00adtion in diesel vehi\u00adcles. This pre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion will high\u00adlight the devel\u00adop\u00adment of Cu-CHA as the lead\u00ading tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy for diesel emis\u00adsion appli\u00adca\u00adtions. Spe\u00adcif\u00adic focus will be placed on the syn\u00adthe\u00adsis and struc\u00adtur\u00adal fea\u00adtures of the zeo\u00adlite. In addi\u00adtion, there will be a dis\u00adcus\u00adsion of spe\u00adcif\u00adic char\u00adac\u00adter\u00adi\u00adza\u00adtion and mod\u00adel\u00ading approach\u00ades focus\u00ading on the unique attrib\u00adut\u00ades of the met\u00adal active sites and the inter\u00adac\u00adtion of these met\u00adal species with the zeo\u00adlite frame\u00adwork.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biog\u00adra\u00adphy<\/strong> \u2014 Dr. Ahmad Moi\u00adni is a Research Fel\u00adlow at BASF Cor\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adtion in Iselin, NJ. He obtained his Ph.D. in Chem\u00adistry from Texas A<span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span>M Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty, and held a post\u00addoc\u00adtor\u00adal appoint\u00adment at Michi\u00adgan State Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty. Dr. Moi\u00adni start\u00aded his career at Mobil Research <span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span> Devel\u00adop\u00adment Cor\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adtion (now Exxon\u00adMo\u00adbil), where he con\u00adduct\u00aded research on micro\u00adp\u00adorous mate\u00adri\u00adals. With a focus on explorato\u00adry zeo\u00adlite syn\u00adthe\u00adsis, he stud\u00adied the mech\u00ada\u00adnism of zeo\u00adlite crys\u00adtal\u00adliza\u00adtion and the role of spe\u00adcif\u00adic class\u00ades of organ\u00adic direct\u00ading agents in the for\u00adma\u00adtion of var\u00adi\u00adous zeo\u00adlite frame\u00adworks. He joined Engel\u00adhard Cor\u00adpo\u00adra\u00adtion (now BASF) in 1996. Since then, his pri\u00adma\u00adry research inter\u00adests have been in the area of mate\u00adri\u00adals syn\u00adthe\u00adsis, direct\u00aded at a range of cat\u00adalyt\u00adic and func\u00adtion\u00adal appli\u00adca\u00adtions. He applied high through\u00adput meth\u00adods for the syn\u00adthe\u00adsis and eval\u00adu\u00ada\u00adtion of cat\u00adalyt\u00adic mate\u00adri\u00adals, and used these tools for the devel\u00adop\u00adment of new prod\u00aducts. A sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant part of his work has been direct\u00aded towards cat\u00ada\u00adlysts for envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtal appli\u00adca\u00adtions. These efforts, in col\u00adlab\u00ado\u00adra\u00adtion with the extend\u00aded BASF team, led to the dis\u00adcov\u00adery and devel\u00adop\u00adment of Cu-CHA cat\u00ada\u00adlyst for selec\u00adtive cat\u00adalyt\u00adic reduc\u00adtion (SCR) of NO<sub>x<\/sub> from diesel vehi\u00adcles.
