\nCat\u00adalyt\u00adic reac\u00adtions that involve oxy\u00adgen can be found in a large num\u00adber of process\u00ades, includ\u00ading those in ener\u00adgy-relat\u00aded appli\u00adca\u00adtions, in emis\u00adsion con\u00adtrol and in process\u00ades impor\u00adtant for the chem\u00adi\u00adcal indus\u00adtry. Whether the cat\u00adalyt\u00adic reac\u00adtion is an oxy\u00adgen inser\u00adtion step as in a selec\u00adtive oxi\u00adda\u00adtion reac\u00adtion, or an oxy\u00adgen removal step as in a hydrodeoxy\u00adgena\u00adtion reac\u00adtion, oxy\u00adgen has proven to be a very chal\u00adleng\u00ading com\u00adpo\u00adnent, often deter\u00admin\u00ading the selec\u00adtiv\u00adi\u00adty of the reac\u00adtion.
