Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Oya\u00adma is rec\u00adog\u00adnized for his out\u00adstand\u00ading con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions and lead\u00ader\u00adship in catal\u00ady\u00adsis research. In his ear\u00adly work, he made sig\u00adnif\u00adi\u00adcant con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtions to our under\u00adstand\u00ading of cat\u00adalyt\u00adic reac\u00adtions on met\u00adal car\u00adbides, nitrides and oxides. Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Oya\u00adma uses state-of-the-art spec\u00adtroscopy meth\u00adods to obtain infor\u00adma\u00adtion about catal\u00ady\u00adsis in the work\u00ading sate. He cur\u00adrent\u00adly works in three areas: the oxida\u00adtive trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtion of hydro\u00adcar\u00adbons to high-val\u00adue prod\u00aducts, the devel\u00adop\u00adment of nov\u00adel cat\u00ada\u00adlysts for the upgrad\u00ading of petro\u00adle\u00adum resources and the devel\u00adop\u00adment of mem\u00adbranes and mem\u00adbrane reac\u00adtors for the selec\u00adtive sep\u00ada\u00adra\u00adtion of gas\u00ades. The award announce\u00adment was made at the 2009 Spring Sym\u00adpo\u00adsium.
