    BY\u2013LAW I \u2014 Name <\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The name of the orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtion shall be \u201cCatal\u00ady\u00adsis Club of Philadel\u00adphia<\/span>\u201d.<\/p>\n

    BY\u2013LAW II \u2014 Objectives <\/strong><\/h3>\n

    The prin\u00adci\u00adpal objec\u00adtives of the Club shall be:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. To fos\u00adter dis\u00adcus\u00adsion of wor\u00adthy advances in the fields of catal\u00ady\u00adsis and reac\u00adtion mech\u00ada\u00adnisms in chem\u00adistry.<\/li>\n
    2. To pro\u00advide oppor\u00adtu\u00adni\u00adties for mem\u00adbers to present, for dis\u00adcus\u00adsion, their own work in the above fields.<\/li>\n
    3. Gen\u00ader\u00adal\u00adly to advance knowl\u00adedge in the fields of catal\u00ady\u00adsis and reac\u00adtion mech\u00ada\u00adnisms.<\/li>\n
    4. To engen\u00adder a feel\u00ading of fel\u00adlow\u00adship and uni\u00adty among the chemists, chem\u00adi\u00adcal engi\u00adneers, mate\u00adr\u00adi\u00adal sci\u00aden\u00adtists and oth\u00ader sci\u00aden\u00adtists in the Philadel\u00adphia area who are inter\u00adest\u00aded in catal\u00ady\u00adsis and relat\u00aded sub\u00adjects (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Novem\u00adber, 1994<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      BY\u2013LAW III \u2014 Membership <\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Mem\u00adber\u00adship in this Club shall be open to all per\u00adsons who are gen\u00aduine\u00adly inter\u00adest\u00aded in achiev\u00ading the objec\u00adtives described in By\u2013Law II and who indi\u00adcate their desire to join and pay the annu\u00adal dues. Club mem\u00adbers who have retired shall be enti\u00adtled to hon\u00adorary mem\u00adber\u00adship and shall be exempt from dues (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Octo\u00adber, 1967<\/em>).<\/p>\n

      BY\u2013LAW IV \u2014 Officers <\/strong><\/h3>\n
        \n
      1. The offi\u00adcers of the club shall be a Chair\u00adman, a Chairman\u2013elect, and Trea\u00adsur\u00ader. The Chairman\u2013elect shall serve as Vice\u2013Chairman (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Novem\u00adber 1994<\/em>).<\/li>\n
      2. The duties of the Chair\u00adman shall be to call and pre\u00adside at meet\u00adings of the Club, and to under\u00adtake or to del\u00ade\u00adgate \u2013 such as to com\u00admit\u00adtees \u2013 those actions which are deemed nec\u00ades\u00adsary to achieve the objec\u00adtives of the Club or to car\u00adry out the poli\u00adcies of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee. The Chair\u00adman shall also dis\u00adtrib\u00adute the By\u2013Laws to each new\u00adly elect\u00aded offi\u00adcer and each appoint\u00aded offi\u00adcer to the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive
        \nCom\u00admit\u00adtee at the first busi\u00adness meet\u00ading after the elec\u00adtion (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Novem\u00adber 1994<\/em>).<\/li>\n
      3. The Chairman\u2013elect shall auto\u00admat\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly suc\u00adceed to the Chair\u00adman\u00adship. The chairman\u2013elect shall be respon\u00adsi\u00adble for arrang\u00ading and run\u00adning the spring sym\u00adpo\u00adsium (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Novem\u00adber 1994<\/em>).<\/li>\n
      4. The duties of the Trea\u00adsur\u00ader shall be to send notices for dues, col\u00adlect dues, and keep a list of mem\u00adbers. He also shall han\u00addle all finan\u00adcial mat\u00adters per\u00adtain\u00ading to the busi\u00adness of the Club, sub\u00adject to approval by the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Novem\u00adber 1994<\/em>).<\/li>\n
      5. The Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee shall con\u00adsist of the offi\u00adcers of the Club, the imme\u00addi\u00adate Past\u2013Chairman, three elect\u00aded Direc\u00adtors, a Rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive to the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety, and four offi\u00adcers appoint\u00aded by the Chair\u00adman: Arrange\u00adments Chair, Sec\u00adre\u00adtary (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Octo\u00adber 2000<\/em>), Pro\u00adgram Chair and Web\u00admas\u00adter (as amend\u00aded \u2013 April 2013<\/em>). Sec\u00adre\u00adtary (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Octo\u00adber 2000<\/em>) shall include send\u00ading to mem\u00adbers such notices as the busi\u00adness of the Club may require, noti\u00adfy\u00ading mem\u00adbers of the time and place of meet\u00adings, keep\u00ading min\u00adutes of the busi\u00adness meet\u00adings, and tak\u00ading care of such cor\u00adre\u00adspon\u00addence as the busi\u00adness of the Club requires (as amend\u00aded \u2013Novem\u00adber 1994<\/em>). They shall adopt and rec\u00adom\u00admend to the Chair\u00adman for exe\u00adcu\u00adtion those poli\u00adcies and plan which will best fur\u00adther the achieve\u00adment of the objec\u00adtives of the Club. The Rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive to The Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety shall serve on the Board of Direc\u00adtors of the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety and shall be respon\u00adsi\u00adble to the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee of the Club (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Octo\u00adber, 1984<\/em>). The Web\u00admas\u00adter (as amend\u00aded \u2013 April 2013<\/em>) shall main\u00adtain the inter\u00adnet pres\u00adence of the Club.<\/li>\n
      6. In the event of the inabil\u00adi\u00adty of the Rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive to the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety to attend any spe\u00adcif\u00adic meet\u00ading of the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety, The Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee shall appoint a tem\u00adpo\u00adrary rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive to act in his place. The elect\u00aded Rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive shall exe\u00adcute any prox\u00adies required by the appoint\u00aded tem\u00adpo\u00adrary rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Octo\u00adber, 1966<\/em>).<\/li>\n
      7. The duties of the Direc\u00adtors shall include man\u00adage\u00adment of the grad\u00adu\u00adate stu\u00addent poster con\u00adtest, solic\u00adi\u00adta\u00adtion of the month\u00adly meet\u00ading hour spon\u00adsors, pub\u00adlic\u00adi\u00adty or oth\u00ader duties rec\u00adom\u00admend\u00aded by con\u00adsen\u00adsus of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee (revised \u2014 Novem\u00adber 1994<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        BY\u2013LAW V \u2014 Elections <\/strong><\/h3>\n
          \n
        1. Meet\u00adings of the Club shall be held dur\u00ading the usu\u00adal aca\u00add\u00ade\u00adm\u00adic year. Reg\u00adu\u00adlar elec\u00adtions shall be held at the last meet\u00ading of such a year. Spe\u00adcial elec\u00adtions to fill any vacan\u00adcy can be called by a major\u00adi\u00adty vote of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee and held at any meet\u00ading of the Club. Nom\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtions shall be made from the floor at the Feb\u00adru\u00adary meet\u00ading or March if no Feb\u00adru\u00adary meet\u00ading is held. Two or more nom\u00adi\u00adna\u00adtions must be made for each office. A bio\u00adgraph\u00adi\u00adcal sketch for each can\u00addi\u00addate will be print\u00aded in the suc\u00adceed\u00ading meet\u00ading announce\u00adments. The elec\u00adtions shall be con\u00adduct\u00aded by the Chair\u00adman with two assis\u00adtants appoint\u00aded by him (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Octo\u00adber, 1984<\/em>).<\/li>\n
        2. All offi\u00adcers and mem\u00adbers of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee, with the excep\u00adtion of the Rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive to the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety, shall serve (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Octo\u00adber 2000<\/em>) for a term of one year, com\u00admenc\u00ading on the first day of June fol\u00adlow\u00ading elec\u00adtion. The Rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtive to the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety shall be elect\u00aded to serve for a term of four years, com\u00admenc\u00ading on the first day of June fol\u00adlow\u00ading elec\u00adtion. Offi\u00adcers and mem\u00adbers of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee elect\u00aded to fill a vacan\u00adcy shall serve for the unex\u00adpired term of office (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Octo\u00adber, 1967<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          BY\u2013LAW VI \u2014 Dues <\/strong><\/h3>\n

          Mem\u00adbers of the Club shall pay reg\u00adu\u00adlar dues not to exceed $8.00 (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Novem\u00adber 1994). Dues of mem\u00adbers are payable in advance (as amend\u00aded Decem\u00adber, 1980<\/em>). In addi\u00adtion to the reg\u00adu\u00adlar dues of the Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Club of Philadel\u00adphia, addi\u00adtion\u00adal dues may be col\u00adlect\u00aded for the Nation\u00adal Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Soci\u00adety. The col\u00adlec\u00adtion of these dues is at the dis\u00adcre\u00adtion of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Jan\u00adu\u00adary, 1983<\/em>).<\/p>\n

          BY\u2013LAW VII \u2014 Meetings <\/strong><\/h3>\n

          The fre\u00adquen\u00adcy of the meet\u00adings of the Club shall be at the dis\u00adcre\u00adtion of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee with a min\u00adi\u00admum of three meet\u00adings per year and a one\u2013day sym\u00adpo\u00adsium. The one\u2013day sym\u00adpo\u00adsium may be omit\u00adted, if nec\u00ades\u00adsary, by a two\u2013thirds vote of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee.<\/p>\n

          BY\u2013LAW VIII \u2014 Parliamentary Authority<\/strong><\/h3>\n

          The rules obtained in Roberts\u2019 Rules (Revised) shall gov\u00adern all meet\u00adings of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee and busi\u00adness meet\u00adings of the Club.<\/p>\n

          BY\u2013LAW IX \u2014 Amendments<\/strong><\/h3>\n

          These By\u2013Laws may be amend\u00aded by two\u2013thirds vote of the mem\u00adbers present and in good stand\u00ading at a reg\u00adu\u00adlar meet\u00ading of the Club, pro\u00advid\u00aded the pro\u00adposed changes have been read at the pre\u00adced\u00ading meet\u00ading.<\/p>\n

          BY\u2013LAW X \u2014 Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n
            \n
          1. An Award is here\u00adby estab\u00adlished and is to be known as The Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Club of Philadel\u00adphia Award. This award is to be a per\u00adson, prefer\u00adably from the Philadel\u00adphia area, who has made an out\u00adstand\u00ading con\u00adtri\u00adbu\u00adtion to the advance\u00adment ofcatal\u00ady\u00adsis. Such advance\u00adment can be sci\u00aden\u00adtif\u00adic, tech\u00adno\u00adlog\u00adi\u00adcal or in orga\u00adni\u00adza\u00adtion lead\u00ader\u00adship. No split Award to two or more per\u00adsons shall be give.<\/li>\n
          2. The Award con\u00adsists of a scroll suit\u00adably inscribed and is to be pre\u00adsent\u00aded at a sched\u00aduled Club meet\u00ading. A small memen\u00adto also suit\u00adably inscribed may also be pre\u00adsent\u00aded (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Novem\u00adber 1994<\/em>).<\/li>\n
          3. The Award may also include a cash prize. The deci\u00adsion on whether to award a cash prize and the amount of the prize will be deter\u00admined each year and must be approved by two-thirds of the mem\u00adbers of the exec\u00adu\u00adtive com\u00admit\u00adtee. The Club will per\u00admit spon\u00adsors to con\u00adtribute specif\u00adi\u00adcal\u00adly to the year\u00adly Award and the spon\u00adsor will be appro\u00adpri\u00adate\u00adly acknowl\u00adedged (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Feb\u00adru\u00adary 22, 2007<\/em>).<\/li>\n
          4. The Award is to be giv\u00aden not more than once each Club year and it is not nec\u00ades\u00adsary to be giv\u00aden every year. The Award win\u00adner shall be select\u00aded by sim\u00adple major\u00adi\u00adty vote of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee from a slate pro\u00adposed by a five (5) mem\u00adber Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee. The Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee at any time before the final Awardee elec\u00adtion, and by two\u2013thirds (2\/3) major\u00adi\u00adty vote of its mem\u00adbers, may reject the entire slate of can\u00addi\u00addates. Rejec\u00adtion of the slate by the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee con\u00adsti\u00adtutes the estab\u00adlish\u00adment of a Club year in which no Award shall be giv\u00aden. The slate of can\u00addi\u00addates offered by the Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee may con\u00adtain no greater than two can\u00addi\u00addates. If only one can\u00addi\u00addate is offered and that can\u00addi\u00addate does not receive a sim\u00adple major\u00adi\u00adty endorse\u00adment by the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee, the Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee may be called by the Club Chair\u00adman to recon\u00advene to estab\u00adlish a new slate. If a zero can\u00addi\u00addate slate is offered by the Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee, a sim\u00adple major\u00adi\u00adty vote endorse\u00adment by the mem\u00adbers of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee will estab\u00adlish a Club year in which no Award is giv\u00aden.<\/li>\n
          5. The Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee of five (5) Club mem\u00adbers shall con\u00adsist of Club Chair\u00adman, the Imme\u00addi\u00adate Past Chair\u00adman, who will act as Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee Chair\u00adman, and three addi\u00adtion\u00adal mem\u00adbers cho\u00adsen by the Club Chair\u00adman. Prefer\u00adably no more than one of these addi\u00adtion\u00adal three shall also be a mem\u00adber of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee. The Club Chair\u00adman shall also attempt to achieve the widest pos\u00adsi\u00adble rep\u00adre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adtion on the Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee by the gen\u00ader\u00adal Club mem\u00adber\u00adship. If the Imme\u00addi\u00adate Past\u2013Chairman is unable to serve, the Club Chair\u00adman may replace him with any Past Chair\u00adman of the Club. The replace\u00adment will chair the Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee. The Chair\u00adman of the Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee shall orga\u00adnize, call and con\u00adduct the meeting(s) nec\u00ades\u00adsary to estab\u00adlish the can\u00addi\u00addate slate. It is the Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee Chairman\u2019s respon\u00adsi\u00adbil\u00adi\u00adty to report the slate to the Club Chair\u00adman. The Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtee Chair\u00adman shall report the can\u00addi\u00addate slate to the Club Chair\u00adman prompt\u00adly.<\/li>\n
          6. The Club Chair\u00adman shall con\u00adduct all polls of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee for this Award. At the time the Club Chair\u00adman achieves a sim\u00adple major\u00adi\u00adty for a can\u00addi\u00addate through his polling of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive Com\u00admit\u00adtee, an Awardee for that Club year shall be con\u00adsid\u00adered select\u00aded. The Club Chair\u00adman shall inform all mem\u00adbers of the Exec\u00adu\u00adtive and Nom\u00adi\u00adnat\u00ading Com\u00admit\u00adtees when an Awardee has been select\u00aded. The Club Trea\u00adsur\u00ader shall be respon\u00adsi\u00adble (as amend\u00aded \u2013 Novem\u00adber 1994<\/em>) for obtain\u00ading the scroll and memen\u00adto, if any (added April 24, 1975<\/em>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            BY\u2013LAW XI<\/strong><\/h3>\n

            \u201c<\/span>No impli\u00adca\u00adtion of gen\u00adder is to be inter\u00adpret\u00aded by any ter\u00admi\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy used in these By\u2013Laws or any amend\u00adments there\u00adto.\u201d<\/p>\n

            BY\u2013LAW XII \u2014 Theodore A. Koch Graduate Student Travel Award<\/strong><\/h3>\n

            (added \u2013 Octo\u00adber 2015<\/em>)<\/p>\n

              \n
            1. The Catal\u00ady\u00adsis Club of Philadel\u00adphia will man\u00adage and admin\u00adis\u00adter a Grad\u00adu\u00adate Stu\u00addent Trav\u00adel Award Fund in mem\u00ado\u00adry of Theodore A. Koch.<\/li>\n
            2. The Trea\u00adsur\u00ader will receive and accept dona\u00adtions for the fund, and pro\u00advide the amount of the award to the awardee. Once a dona\u00adtion is received he\/she will send receipts to the donors and make a good-faith attempt to noti\u00adfy the T.A. Koch fam\u00adi\u00adly.<\/li>\n
            3. The max\u00adi\u00admum amount of the award is set to $1000 and will be giv\u00aden once per year to a grad\u00adu\u00adate stu\u00addent from the greater Philadel\u00adphia area, prefer\u00adably a CCP mem\u00adber. The intent of the award is to assist the awardee to attend a nation\u00adal or inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal con\u00adfer\u00adence of his\/her choice. The award will be giv\u00aden pro\u00advid\u00aded that suf\u00adfi\u00adcient monies exist in the T.A. Koch fund.<\/li>\n
            4. Appli\u00adca\u00adtions will be received each year with dead\u00adline set by the CCP chair after con\u00adsult\u00ading with the exec\u00adu\u00adtive com\u00admit\u00adtee. The con\u00adfer\u00adences sug\u00adgest\u00aded by each appli\u00adcant can take place any time of that aca\u00add\u00ade\u00adm\u00adic year (Sept. \u2013Aug.)<\/li>\n
            5. The CCP chair will appoint a three mem\u00adber selec\u00adtion com\u00admit\u00adtee com\u00adprised of mem\u00adbers of the Club.<\/li>\n
            6. The com\u00admit\u00adtee will eval\u00adu\u00adate the appli\u00adcant based on poten\u00adtial impact of the award to the candidate\u2019s stat\u00aded career goal , finan\u00adcial need and over\u00adall mer\u00adit , and will announce the awardee in one of the month\u00adly meet\u00adings.<\/li>\n
